현대종교에 많은 선교사들의 자료 요청이 들어오고 있다. 해외에서 사용할 수 있는 영어로 번역된 이단 자료가 필요하다는 것이다. 그래서 현대종교는 매월 한 단체씩 이단단체에 대한 정보를 영어로 번역해 게재하고자 한다. [편집자 주]
The World Mission Society Church of God (represented by Joo-Cheol Kim, hereinafter referred to as “Church of God”) lately obtains an image as a voluntary organization. Such an image may cause serious misunderstanding to the general public who does not know the truth about this organization. Church of God is a cult organization which believes in the Sahng Hong Ahn, a founder of the Church of God and it is determined as a “heresy” by many denominations of the traditional churches.
하나님의교회 세계복음선교협회(대표 김주철, 이하 하나님의교회)의 활발한 대외 활동으로 그 이미지가 수면 위로 부상하고 있다. 이 단체를 알지 못하는 일반인들에게는 사회활동을 열심히 하는 한국교회 중 한 교회로 오인될 소지가 다분하다. 하나님의교회는 설립자 안상홍을 하나님으로 믿는 단체이며, 한국의 여러 교단에서 “이단”으로 결의했다.
1. Who is Mr. Sahng Hong Ahn?
1. 안상홍은 누구인가?
Mr. Sahng Hong Ahn (hereinafter referred as “Mr. Ahn” or “Ahn”) was born at Gyenammyeon, Jangsu-gun, Jeollabuk-do, the Republic of Korea, on January 13th, 1918. In July 1947, he joined the Seventh Day Adventist Church. During his time in the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Mr. Ahn insisted that he realized the truth of the second coming of the Jesus Christ and joined a movement called “Sigipa” (a movement to count the time for the second coming of the Jesus Christ). However, he was expelled from the Seventh Day Adventist Church, on March 17th, 1962.
안상홍은 1918년 1월 13일 전북 장수군 계남면 명덕리에서 태어났고, 1947년 7월 안식교에 입교했다. 1953년 안씨는진리를 깨달았다며 재림 시기를 주장하는 “시기파” 운동에 참여했다가 1962년 3월 17일 출교 당했다.
Mr. Ahn established Church of God in Busan with twenty three people who were expelled with him, on April 28th, 1964. And he started to teach his followers a lesson that “he is a God in flesh and Paraclete, the Holy Spirit”. From that time, Mr. Ahn had prayed and baptized his followers in his name until his death.
이후 안씨는 23명의 안식교 교인과 함께 탈퇴해 1964년 4월 28일 부산에서 하나님의교회 예수증인회를 창설했고, 자신을 “육신을 입고 온 하나님, 보혜사 성령” 등으로 가르치기 시작했다. 안씨를 하나님으로 따르는 신도들은 안상홍의 이름으로 기도하고 침례를 베푼다.
Mr. Ahn deified himself as God, but he died of a stroke at a restaurant located in Busan, on February 25th, 1985. He was sixty seven years old, when he was deceased. After the death of Mr. Ahn, the Witness of AhnSahngHong (another name for the Church of God) was divided into several groups, including two major coteries, New Covenant Passover the Church of God and World Mission Society Church of God. The other small groups whose theories are different from the major coteries also existed.
하나님으로 자신을 신격화한 안씨는 1985년 2월 25일, 67세의 나이로 부산의 한 식당에서 식사 중에 뇌졸중으로 사망했다. 안씨 사후 안상홍증인회는 '새언약 유월절 하나님의교회'와 '하나님의교회 세계복음선교협회'로 나누어졌으며 그외 몇몇 분파가 더 있는 것으로 알려지고 있다.
The strongest and biggest coterie among these coteries was the World Mission Society Church of God which has been represented by Mr. Joo Cheol Kim and which believes in “God the Mother”, Ms Gil Ja Jang (hereinafter referred to as “Ms Jang”). This coterie occupied the organization. After Mr. Ahn’s death, Church of God and the followers of Mr. Ahn moved the headquarter of Church of God from Busan to Seoul, on March 22nd, 1985, and changed the name to “Church of God, Witness of Ahn Sahng Hong“. In October of the same year, the headquarter of this heresy moved to Bongcheon-dong, Seoul. Church of God made predictions of Armageddon in 1988, 1999, and 2012, but every prediction of Armageddon made by this Church of God ended in failure. Church of God was conscious of public’s attention caused by this failed predictions, and it changed its name to the “World Mission Society Church of God”.
그 중 제일 큰 세를 갖춘 곳이 장길자가 “하늘어머니”로, 김주철씨가 총회장으로 있는 하나님의교회 세계복음선교협회이다. 1985년 3월 22일, 본부를 부산에서 서울로 옮긴 안씨의 추종자들은 단체명을 하나님의교회 안상홍증인회로 개칭했으며, 10월에는 관악구 봉천동으로 본부를 이전했다. 1988년, 1999년, 2012년 등 계속되는 시한부종말설의 불발과 이로 인한 사회 비판적 여론을 의식, 지금의 하나님의교회 세계복음선교협회로 개칭해 활동하고 있다.
2. What does the Church of God insist?
2. 하나님의교회는 무엇을 주장하는가?
The followers of the Church of God believes in Mr. Ahn as “God the Father”, and Ms Jang, Mr. Ahn’s wife as “God the Mother.” Since Mr. Ahn was used to be the member ofthe Seventh Day Adventist Church, Church of God’s doctrines and theories are quite similar to the doctrines and theories of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Church of God teaches its followers a doctrine that Salvation is only available to the followers who obey and follow the doctrines of Passover and Sabbath Day.
하나님의교회는 안상홍을 하나님으로 믿고 있으며, 그의 부인 장길자를 하늘 어머니로 믿고 있다. 또 안상홍씨가 안식교 출신이기에 기초적인 교리 형태는 안식교와 유사하다. 이들은 유월절과 안식일을 지켜야 구원을 얻는다고 주장하고 있다.
1) Mr. Ahn, the Second Coming Christ and God the Father
1) 재림 그리스도 안상홍 하나님
Church of God believes in Mr. Ahn as “God the Father” based on the following reasons:
하나님의교회에서 안상홍을 하나님으로 믿는 이유는 다음과 같다.
▶ It is a quotation from Mr. Ahn’s book: How will Jesus Christ achieve the forty year long period of King David’s reign? Jesus Christ was baptized when he was thirty and worked as a messiah only for three years. In this three year period, Jesus Christ taught the public, spread the gospel and self sacrificed himself as a scapegoat for human race’s sins. In comparison with the David’s forty year reign, Jesus Christ spent only three years on his work. And then, how should the rest period, thirty seven years, be achieved? This thirty seven year period will be worked by a secret inspector (undercover King’s agent) and then the prediction of the forty year period will be completely achieved. The period of David’s reign (which was forty year long), is a prediction which shall be achieved by Jesus Christ in flesh and he shall work for full forty years for perfect completion of the prediction ([Secret of God], written by Sahng Hong Ahn, p.79).
▶ 예수님께서 어떻게 해서 다윗의 왕위역사 40년이 이루어질 것인가? 예수님은 30세에 침례 받으시고 겨우 3년 동안
실지 교훈으로 행하시고 복음을 전하시며 온 인류의 죄값으로 속죄 제물로 십자가에 희생되심으로 육신사업을 3년으로 끝마치셨다. 40년 역사가 겨우 3년으로 끝났으니 나머지 37년을 어떻게 처리해야 될 것인가? 이 37년이 마지막 때에 암행어사로 나타나셔서 37년 복음사업을 행하게 됨으로 40년의 예언이 성취될 것이다. 다윗 왕의 40년 역사는 예언이 되어 예수님께서도 역시 육체로 오셔서 40년을 채우셔야 완전한 예언 성취가 된다. (『하나님의비밀』, 안상홍 저, 79쪽)
Jesus Christ, God in flesh, only worked for three years as messiah in the New Testament. Mr. Ahn insisted that thirty seven years shall be also worked by Jesus Christ, God in flesh, in comparison with the period of David’s reign, forty years. Then, who is God in flesh working for the rest period? Mr. Ahn insisted that a person who will find and achieve the new covenant at the last time is the Paraclete and the Paraclete is the Jesus Christ who will come in a human being.
예수님은 다윗의 위로 왔고, 다윗의 재위기간이 40년인데 반해 예수님은 3년밖에 일하지 못했기에 재림예수가 다시 와서 37년을 채워야 다윗의 재위 기간 40년이 완성된다는 논리이다. 그렇다면 안씨가 주장하는 재림 예수는 누구인가? 안씨는 마지막 때에 잃어버렸던 절기(새언약)를 발견해 회복하는 사람이 성령이고, 그 성령이 곧 육체로 오시는 예수라고 주장하고 있다.
▶ It is a quotation from Mr. Ahn’s book: In the time of Melchizedek, a person who prayed to God for mercy with bread and wine was only Melchisedek. In the time of the New Testament, only Jesus prayed to God for mercy with bread and wine. At present days,Church of God is only church which prays to God for mercy, in the Passover season. ▶ 멜기세덱 당시에 떡과 포도주로 복을 빈 사람은 멜기세덱뿐이었으며, 신약에도 떡과 포도주로 복을 빌어 주신 분은 오직 예수님뿐이었다. 오늘날 유월절에 떡과 포도주로 제사 드려 생명을 이어받는 교회는 오직 우리 교회뿐이다. (『하나님의 비밀』, 안상홍 저, 162쪽)
▶ It is a quotation from Mr. Ahn’s book: In the last time, God’s words will become flesh and blood which will come to us as the order of Melchisedek, and he will reside with us. And he will give us lives with the Passover’s bread and wine ([Secret of God] written by Sahng Hong Ahn, p.164)
▶ 마지막 때에도 말씀이 육신이 되어 멜기세덱의 반차로 오셔서 우리 가운데 거하시게 되니 새 언약의 유월절 떡과 포도주로 생명을 주시게 됐다.(『하나님의 비밀』, 안상홍 저,164쪽)
Mr. Joo-cheol Kim, the General Pastor of Church of God insists, in his book named as [My sheep listens to my voices], that the Holy Spirit is a human being with certain name, based on the Holy Bible, Matthew 28:19“baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit”. In other words, Mr. Kim insists that Mr. Ahn’s name is the Holy Spirit’s name.
하나님의교회 총회장 김주철씨는 자신의 저서 『내 양은 내음성을 듣나니』에서 마태복음 28장 19절 “아버지와 아들과 성령의 이름으로 세례를 주고”라는 말씀을 근거로 성령은 이름이 있는 인격체라고 주장하고 있다. 즉 안상홍이 바로 성령의 이름이라는 것이다.
Church of God’s insistences collectively means that a person who finds and recovers the season lost in the last time (new covenant) is the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit is God in flesh. According to its doctrine, Mr. Ahn is God in flesh, since he found and achieved this new covenant.
결론적으로 이들의 주장을 종합해볼 때 마지막 때에 잃어버렸던 절기(새언약)를 발견해 회복한 사람은 성령이고, 이 성령은 육체로 오는 예수이며, 안상홍씨가 이 진리를 발견해 회복했기 때문에 약속된 성령, 육체로 온 예수라고 주장하는 것이다.
2) God the Mother, Gil Ja Jang

Church of God insists that man and woman images co-exist in God’s image and that Eve is the wife of Agnus Dei, second Coming Jesus Christ.
하나님의교회는 하나님 형상안에 남녀의 형상이 공존해 있고, 하와를 가리켜 재림 그리스도의 어린양의 아내를 표상하고 있다고 주장하고 있다.
▶ It is a quotation from the Mr. Kim’s book:God created male and female in the image of God. In other words, in God’s image, there are two images; male and female images ([People called by God] written by Joo-cheol Kim, p.186)
▶ 하나님이 “우리의 형상” 곧 “하나님의 형상”을 모델 삼아 그대로 창조하신 존재가 남자와 여자였다. 이는 곧 하나님의 형상 안에는 복수의 형상, 정확히 말하자면 남자의 형상과 여자의 형상이 존재하고 있다는 말씀이다. (『하나님의 부르심을 입은 자들』, 김주철 저, 186쪽)
▶ It is a quotation from the Mr. Kim’s book:Adam is a symbol of second coming of Jesus Christ. Therefore, Eve, Adam’s wife represents Agnus Dei’s wife. (People called by God]written by Joo-cheol Kim, p.193)

Moreover, Church of God insists that ‘the bride’ mentioned in Chapter 22 of the Revelation is the ‘Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God’ in Chapter 21 of the Revelation. This insistence is referred to Church of God’s textbook called as [Moses’ Staff]. Also, Church of God insists that Jerusalem is ‘our mother’ in accordance with Chapter 4 of Galatians and ‘the bride’ means ‘our mother’ in [Moses’ staff]. In other words, our mother” means Ms Jang chosen by Mr. Ahn as a bride of God, under the doctrine of Church of God.
또 하나님의교회 성경 교재『모세의 지팡이』에서는 “계시록 22장의 ‘신부’를 계시록 21장에서는 ‘하늘 예루살렘’이라
고 했고, 갈라디아서 4장에서는 하늘 예루살렘을 ‘우리 어머니’라고 했다”며 “신부는 우리어머니를 뜻한다”고 주장한다.즉 이들이 말하는 “우리 어머니”는 안상홍이 하나님의 신부로 택한 장길자를 가리킨다.
Do the terms “Wife of Agnus Dei”, “Bride” and “New Jerusalem” truly mean “God the Mother”? Pastor Yong Sik Jin (hereinafter Pastor Jin) explained the true meanings of such terms in his journal named as [The Truth of Witness of AhnSahngHong]. Pastor Jin said that ‘according to Ephesians 5:22~23, the Bible compares the relationship between Church and Jesus Christ to the relationship between husband and wife’. And Pastor Jin explained that the quotes from the Galatians by Church of God does not mean “God the Mother”, but it is a comparison to the “relationship between the Judaism and the first church of Christianity”. Based on these explanations, Pastor Jin criticized the doctrine of “God the Mother” which insists that “the New Jerusalem, the holy chapel in New Testament means the new people, Church of God”.
이들이 주장하는 것처럼 “어린양의 아내”, “신부”, “새 예루살렘”은 “하늘 어머니”를 가리키는 것인가? 진용식 목사는 『안상홍 증인회의 실체는?』에서 “에베소서 5장 22절부터 32절 까지의 말씀의 ‘부부의 관계’는 예수 그리스도와 교회의 관계로 비유로 말하고 있다”며 그 의미를 밝혔다. 또 하나님의교회에서 “하늘 어머니” 주장을 위해 택한 갈라디아서 본문 말씀에 대해 “유대교와 초대교회를 비교하는 비유”라며, “신약의 영적 성전 새 예루살렘은 하나님의 새로운 백성인 교회를 가리킨다”고 “하늘 어머니”교리를 비판했다.
3) Salvation through Passover

If Church of God’s followers try to propagate traditional Christians, followers of Church of God will firstly approach to Christians by asking the question “Are you truly saved and redeemed?”. In case where the questioned Christian answers “yes”, then they will probably ask “Do you fulfill the Passover obligation?”Church of God insists that the Salvation shall be based on the Passover.
하나님의교회 신자들은 기성교회 성도를 포교할 때 “혹시 구원 받았는가?”라고 접근, 대상자가 구원받았다고 대답하면 “유월절을 지키고 있는가?”라고 다시 묻는다. 이처럼 하나님의교회에서 주장하는 구원의 조건은 “유월절” 준수 여부에 두고 있다.
▶ It is a quotation from Mr. Kim’s Book:Passover is the God’s commandment prescribed in order to provide eternal lives for us. Jesus Christ taught a lesson that Passover is essential for the eternal life ([My sheep listens to my voices] written by Joocheol Kim, p.82)

▶ It is a quotation from Mr. Kim’s book: We are released from the laws of sin and death. This release is achieved by new law of life, the best commandment and regulation, in other words, New Covenant, “Passover.”
▶ 우리는 죄와 사망의 법에서 해방됐다. 그것은 생명의 법,즉 새 언약 유월절로 말미암아 성취되는 그리스도의 최고의 계명이며 규례를 통해 이루어졌다. (『내 양은 내 음성을 듣나니』, 김주철 저, 86쪽)
Church of God divides the human history into three parts; Father’s era Son’s era, and the Holy Spirit’s era. According to insistence of Church of God, in the Old Testament, a.k.a Father’s era, God saved and redeemed
Israelis by establishing the Passover. In the New Testament, a.k.a Son’s era, Church of God insists that Jesus Christ came as a lamb for the Passover, fulfilled the promise of the season, and opened the path for Salvation.
하나님의교회는 타락한 인류의 역사는 세 시대로 구분할 수 있는데 곧 성부, 성자, 성령의 시대라고 주장하고 있다. 구약, 즉 성부시대에는 여호와 하나님이 구원의 주체로 유월절을 재정해 지키도록 명령해 이스라엘 백성을 구원하셨고, 성자 시대에는 예수께서 유월절 어린양으로 오셔서 예표된 절기를 그대로 이행하여 구원의 길을 열어 놓으셨다고 한다.
Additionally, Church of God insists that Jesus Christ interpreted the Holy Communion as the Passover and established a new covenant prior to his death on the cross. Lastly, Church of God insists that in the Holy Spirit’s era, the promised Holy Spirit, in other words, Christ in flesh or God in flesh (Mr. Ahn) will recover the Passover, the new covenant, and he will complete the Salvation.
또 예수께서 십자가에 돌아가시기 전 유월절을 성만찬으로 번역해 새 언약으로 세우셨다고 주장하고 있다. 마지막으로 성령시대에는 약속된 성령 곧 육체로 오신 예수(안상홍)께서 잃어버린 새 언약 곧 유월절을 회복하시게 되는데, 이로 말미암아 구원이 완성하게 된다고 주장하고 있다.
Is the Passover truly necessary to the Salvation, as the Church of God insists? Pastor Jin criticized in his journal [The Truth of Witness of AhnSahngHong] that “if the sin is forgiven by fulfilling the Passover obligations, there should be many examples and precedents which shows that forgiveness is granted to people by fulfilling of the Passover obligations, but there is no such example in the New Testament of Holy Bible.”
하나님의교회의 주장처럼 유월절의 준수가 구원의 조건이 되는가? 이에 대해 진용식 목사는 『안상홍 증인회의 실체
는?』에서 “유월절을 지켜서 죄사함을 받는 것이라면 성경에 죄사함 받은 수많은 사례들 중에 유월절을 지킴으로 죄사함 받은 사례가 있어야 한다”며 “신약성경 어디에도 유월절을 지킴으로 죄사함을 받은 기록은 없다”고 비판했다.
4) Sabbath Day, the Worship day

Ahn was used to be a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and he insisted that Saturday should be the worship day.
안식교 출신인 안상홍은 토요일을 안식일로 지켜야 한다고 주장한다.

Pastor Jin said in his Journal [The truth of Witness of AhnSahngHong?] that “Sabbath Day was an Israeli season in the Old Testament, but in the New Testament, it does not need to be kept and fulfilled, since the Cross took away the seasons and regulations of the Old Testament.” Also Pastor Jin quoted the Colossians 2:14~17 for basis of his argument; “Having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. Therefore, do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration of a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come, the reality, however, is found in Christ.”
진용식 목사는 『안상홍 증인회의 실체는?』에서 “안식일은 구약에서 이스라엘 백성에 주어진 절기이다. 그러나 신약에 와서는 지킬 필요가 없어졌다”며 “십자가에서 구약의 절기와 규례들이 폐했기 때문이다”라고 말한다. 이어서 “골로새서 2장14~17절에 보면 ‘우리를 거스르고 불리하게 하는 법조문으로 쓴 증서를 지우시고 제하여 버리사 십자가에 못 박으시고 통치자들과 권세들을 무력화하여 드러내어 구경거리로 삼으시고 십자가로 그들을 이기셨느니라 그러므로 먹고 마시는 것과 절기나 초하루나 안식일을 이유로 누구든지 너희를 비판하지 못하게 하라 이것들은 장래 일의 그림자이나 몸은 그리스도의 것이니라’고 되어있다”며 “이 문제는 십자가에서 폐한바 된 것이기 때문에 더이상 폄론치 말라는 것이다”라고 반증한다.
Church of God believes decease Ahn as God the Father and living Jang as God the Mother and insists that seasons in the Old Testament shall be kept and fulfilled in present days. In Korean Supreme Court, victims of Church of God argued that Church of God frequently and repetitively insisted Armageddon and such insistence and predictions forced followers to contribute their property to Church of God. Korean Supreme Court held that this argument is not false (held Oct 4th, 2018). Also, Church of God was shown in various countries’ medias, because of disappearance, missing, divorce of its followers and other social problems caused by it.
하나님의교회는 죽은 안상홍을 하나님 아버지로, 살아 있는 장길자를 하나님 어머니로 믿고, 구약의 절기를 현시대에도 반드시 지켜야 한다고 주장한다. 시한부 종말을 주장해 신도들에게 공포심을 심어주고 재산을 바치도록 했다는 피해자들의 주장이 허위가 아니라는 대법원 판결(2018. 10. 4.)이 있었으며, 가출, 이혼 등 여러 사회적인 문제로 인해 미국과 호주 등 국내외 언론에도 수차례 등장한 바 있다.
